WELCOME!

We are the Twin Cities Area Reading Council (TCARC), a council within the
Minnesota ReadingAssociation (MRA) organization,
under the parent organization, International Literacy Association (ILA).

The MISSION of the Minnesota Reading Association
Minnesota Reading Association’s mission is to actively promote lifelong literacy for all citizens. We encourage professional interaction among all organizations involved with literacy and provide resources for exemplary literacy practices and habits.
• • •
Supporting, Recognizing, and Celebrating Literacy Efforts across the State of Minnesota Promoting Networking and Collaboration in the Area of Literacy Providing Resources and Opportunities for Professional Growth and Leadership Development

As a council, we intend to be a conduit of information in two directions. We will provide literacy information to and gain information from our members.

Our TCARC Goals are:
  1. To provide opportunities for professional growth
  1. To promote collaboration and networking in the area of literacy
Our motto, “We Conduit,” reminds us that we can indeed work together collaboratively to help meet
you and in return we hope that you will share your ideas, insights, and concerns with us.

We accomplish these goals by providing two or three events throughout the year, as well as by providing opportunities for book studies, and various less formal council meetings that are free to our members. The purpose of these professional events, meetings, or discussion groups is for you to participate in conversations of current topics, to share ideas, and to create new collegial connections.
MRA has many professional opportunities for members including:
  1. A summer conference, which is in collaboration with Hamline University’s Summer Literacy Institute
  2. Seasonal symposiums for professional collaboration and professional growth
  3. A quarterly newsletter, a website of resources, and professional connections
  4. A spring Celebration of Literacy event to recognize outstanding members and to celebrate
    young authors
  5. Several grant opportunities
